Yin and Yang ~ Practitioners Range

Our Machiya Shop is once again ready to open it’s doors and we are so excited to release our long anticipated Yin and Yang Practitioners Range. Thank you so much for being a part of our journey ~ as our clients, students and fellow practitioners this is for YOU!

Machiya Australia co~owners Aleisha and Patch have spent many years teaching and studying movement and East Asian Therapies including; Yoga, Qi Gong, Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine. “Spending much of our time in active or yoga wear, we slowly began drifting towards loose, light and more breathable fabrics. We also felt the desire to look more fashionable, professional and inclusive”.

So…the dream of street to studio began. Many moons ago Patch designed a small collection labeled just this, however hitting road blocks from samples to production trying passionately to connect with Thai tailors with the help of her Mum Dao translating, it simply didn’t come to fruition.

Later on…just a few moons ago Aleisha with the help of a beautiful friend, client and her brand, our favourite PJs Jade and May began designing sample sheets for the Shiatsu futons. Fast forward to 2023, Aleisha and Patch rejoined forces after spending many years previously working together and were so excited to re~launch as Machiya Australia.

A deep dive into practitioner ranges began, we started looking into what traditional Shiatsu Therapists, Massage Therapists and Yoga Teachers would wear and it was all loose, comfortable linens and cottons that allowed for mindful movement. Inspired by this, we decided to recreate these pieces making them versatile, fashionable and functional for practitioners and beyond.

All pieces have the ability to be dressed up or kept casual with comfort being key. Our Yin and Yang tailored pieces includes a shirt and pants both featuring traditional Asian style knot buttons and are oversized, effortless with classical features from older times.

It was important to us to make the process as ethical and sustainable as possible. We were so lucky to have met Jo from Hooray Hoop in Geelong who put us in contact with her wonderful friend and designer Fang in Chang Mai, Thailand. Fang employed her local seamstress Laung to bring our range to life.

We use 100% machine weaved cotton for durability, to enhance the features on the shirt and the pleats on the pants giving them a professional and structured look. We really hope to be able to travel to Thailand soon to connect deeper with Patchula’s Thai ancestry and meet and help Fang and Laung with the process for our next range!

We hope you love our first release as much as we do.
